Davido has met and hosted veteran Nigerian highlife singer Bright Chimezie in Lagos

On Friday, Chimezie thanked Davido for sampling his 1984 hit ‘Because of English’ in ‘With You’. With You” is Davido’s collaborative work with Omah Lay.

Davido also appreciated the veteran for being an inspiration and expressed his desire to meet him in person.

Davido’s verse in ‘With You’  “If I speak English, oh-oh, Cho-cho-cho, no working, I no wan punish, woah, woah. I want to punish you, idiarabanko” — closely mirrors Chimezie’s original lyrics, coming across as a creative spin or tribute to the veteran’s signature lines.

This isn’t the first time entertainers have reconnected with veteran singers.

In July 2024, Brain Jotter visited highlife legend Mike ‘Gentleman’ Ejeagha after using his song ‘Ka Esi Le Onye Isi Oche’ in one of his viral dance skits, which helped bring renewed attention to the classic.

Nigerian singer Stanley Omah Didia, aka Omah Lay, has been involved in a car accident in Lagos.

The singer who recently featured in Davido’s ‘With You’ was unhurt after the accident involving his two Tesla trucks.

Although the accident details are still sketchy, videos posted from the accident scene by music executive Adesope ‘Shopsydoo’ Olajide indicate it might have occurred at night somewhere on the Island.

Omah Lay looked unscathed in the aftermath of the accident. He was seen walking freely in one of the videos. Another video showed how the two damaged Tesla trucks were loaded onto a towing vehicle.
