Lil Kesh, the Nigerian rapper, has explained the challenges of achieving fame at age 19.
In a recent interview on the Esther Show, the artist revealed that his early success denied him crucial life experiences and opportunities for personal development.
The 30-year-old songwriter admitted that rising to stardom at 19 was “overwhelming”.
Kesh said that while his career took off quickly, he missed out on the chance to “grow and learn intelligently”
“I blew at a very tender age. I was 19 when I got signed. I just turned 20 when I had ‘Shoki’. So, battling the limelight,” he said.
“I feel like that is not really talked about too much. But shout out to people like Justin Bieber that was vulnerable and was able to tell his story.

“My own too is similar to that. It is just coming to limelight an early age. I was also deprived of a lot of things. A lot of life experiences I could have learnt before I was put into the position.
“A lot of fun I could have had. It was overwhelming blowing up at that time. And also trying to maintain the brand over the years.
“I wished I had learnt so much before I was given what I had. Growth and intelligence overall.”
Born Keshinro Ololade, Kesh began his musical career in 2012, rapping among his colleagues in Bariga.
The former YBNL signee rose to fame after releasing the hit single ‘Shoki’ in 2014.
Falz, the Nigerian rapper and activist, has revealed why he uses his music to address societal issues.
The rapper is known for songs which are often targeted at addressing bad governance and societal ills. He was also one of the frontrunners of the 2020 #EndSARS protest.
During the WithChude Live event, Falz disclosed that people within his social circles often try to discourage him from being so vocal.
The 34-year-old artist, however, emphasised that his artistry is deeply influenced by his environment, making it impossible for him to stay silent.
