The funeral arrangements for plus-size model and Nollywood actress Monalisa Stephen have been laid to mother earth.
Late Monalisa was buried today, Thursday, May 22, 2025.
The burial arrangements were shared on a flyer via her verified Instagram page on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, with the final rites scheduled for morning and a private interment planned for noon.
Monalisa sadly passed away after a battle with low blood sugar and subsequent internal bleeding, and the tragic news was announced by the Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood (BON), Seun Oloketuyi, on May 14, 2025, via an Instagram post.

We lay our beloved Monalisa Ayobami Stephen to rest this Thursday, May 22nd, 2025. In honour of her wishes and the family’s, this will be a private ceremony. We ask for continued prayers and respect for her memory during this time. Forever in our hearts.
Oloketuyi stated that the news of her passing was confirmed by the deceased actress’ sister at the time.

He wrote, “Brand influencer, Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is d3ad. She d!ed yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against low sugar and internal bleeding. Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul.”

Meanwhile, in January, the deceased also spoke against discrimination against plus-size actresses in Nollywood. In an interview with The PUNCH, she said
“They’re biased against plus-size actresses, and it’s becoming worse for a generation with a fast mind. I don’t know who started the idea of putting one’s look over one’s talent. That is so ridiculous. They need to do better—all sizes should be included! Not even from a place where my forefathers and mothers were built like this. I can’t do anything about it; it’s in the genes.”
