Afrobeats singer, Small Doctor, has expressed deep shock at the increasing rate of drug abuse amongst Nigerian youths.

The Agege-raised crooner recounted a recent visit to his childhood neighbourhood, which left him shocked.

He stated that during the visit, he saw some promising young men he grew up with sleeping while standing due to the effects of drug abuse.

He said he was saddened by the experience as he appealed for more advocacy against drug abuse.

On his X handle, Small Doctor wrote, “There is one bros that sings against drug abuse on socials, been a minute I came across his content (David something can’t fully remember). I think we need him more at this moment.

“I strolled through hoods on Sunday, and what I saw was heartbreaking. The rate young chaps use drugs nowadays is alarming.

“Wasiu Ayinde told me 6 years ago to establish a rehabilitation centre, stating it is the new oil. That man saw the future.

“Most heartbreaking was when I arrived my hood, I saw some promising guys we grew up together sleeping while standing, some were even making some crazy postures while sleeping.

“So sad.”

The singer spoke against the label he was signed to from 2020 to 2022 in an interview on WithChude.

Blu claimed that his time at Marlian Records was akin to being “imprisoned”.

During his stint at the label, owned by Naira Marley, the singer released five songs, including ‘Instagram’ and ‘Rolla Costa’.

He also collaborated with fellow Marlian Records signees, such as Zinoleesky and the late Mohbad.

During the interview, the singer said his experience at the label was marred by allegations of tribalism, exploitation, and substance abuse.

He further claimed that the label’s management stifled his creativity, forcing him to produce music that conformed to their expectations rather than his artistic vision.

Blu alleged that Marlian Records withheld his music royalties since he departed from the label in 2022.
