In coordinated sting operations in Ilorin and Ifelodun Local Government Areas of Kwara State, agents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate have taken 17 alleged online scammers into custody.
The suspects were apprehended in Asa Dam, the Al-Hikmah University and Gaa-Odota neighbourhoods of Ilorin, as well as in Ganmo and Amoyo neighbourhoods of the state’s Ifelodun Local Government Area, according to a statement sent to the media on Tuesday night by EFCC Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
“The arrests which took place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, followed actionable intelligence that linked the suspects to fraudulent internet activities in the state.
“Items recovered from them upon arrest include three luxury vehicles, high-end mobile phones and laptop computers,” the statement added.

The most recent arrests followed those made last week, when 47 offenders were apprehended in Ilorin and Ifelodun LGA after intelligence revealed their fraudulent online operations.
The statement said that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
As you may remember, the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate detained 103 suspected fraudsters in the zone between March and October 2024.
“48 suspected internet fraudsters and a herbalist were arrested in various locations in Lokoja, Kogi state capital on March 7,2024 for offences bordering on conspiracy and obtaining Money under false pretence,” the EFCC statement said.
The Ilorin zonal Command office of EFCC covers Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states with the zonal headquarters in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

Ten exotic automobiles, two motorbikes, eleven computers, eighty-three cell phones, and charms were among the items found on them.
All of the male suspects, who ranged in age from 17 to 34, had been arraigned in court.
The Yahoo boys’ hideaway in Offa city, Offa local government area, Kwara state, was also broken into by EFCC agents on October 30, 2024, and 55 individuals were taken into custody.
