An 18-member committee appointed by the Senate will supervise the actions of Rivers State’s only administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas.
During Tuesday’s plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement.
According to Akpabio, the action was taken to improve accountability and openness in Rivers State’s government.
According to him, the committee’s mission is essential to guaranteeing efficient legislative supervision.

“The committee must immediately commence its oversight functions in Rivers,” Akpabio said.
He mentioned that following more discussions, the committee’s makeup may be examined.
With Adamu Aliero (Kebbi), Osita Izunaso (Imo), Osita Ngwu (Enugu), Kaka Shehu (Borno), Aminu Abass (Adamawa), Tokunbo Abiru (Lagos), and Adeniyi Adegbonmire (Ondo) as members, the senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, was appointed chairman of the committee.

In addition to the senate clerk, the committee also includes Sani Musa (Niger), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Asuquo Ekpeyong (Cross River), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Ireti Kingibe (FCT), Onyekachi Nwebonyi (Ebonyi), Idiat Adebule (Lagos), Ede Dafinone (Delta), and Mohammed Nakudu (Jigawa).
Akpabio called the task “urgent” and asked the group to start working right now.
Additionally, he reiterated the Senate’s dedication to preserving democratic values in Rivers State.
A 21-member ad hoc committee was established by the House of Representatives on April 15 to supervise the emergency rule in Rivers State.
Speaking at the inauguration, Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, said the move indicates the parliament’s “dedication to transparent governance and the rule of law in our country”.
