During Saturday’s intense rainstorm, at least thirty-two cows were reported killed in the Osara, Obantoko neighbourhood of Abeokuta in the Odeda Local Government area of Ogun State.
According to Wasiu Afolabi, the Baale of Osara, who talked with our correspondent on Sunday, the event took place during Saturday’s intense downpour, which began at around midday.
According to Afolabi, the Fulani herders who were in charge of the cows informed him of the terrible event at around 2:00 PM on Saturday.
He clarified that the issue had been brought to the attention of Dr. Afolashade Adeyemo, the Chairman of the Odeda Local Government, and the Aregbe police division.
Afolabi said, “I was at home on Saturday when the Fulani herders at about 2 pm came to report that lightning had killed 32 of their cows.

“I got to their place, where they usually keep these cows before they are taken out for grazing and saw these dead cows. We have, however, reported the incident to the Aregbe police division as well as the Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Dr Afolashade Adeyemo, and other people who must be aware.

“We have equally scheduled a meeting for this morning with the Fulani to know what to do next and also ensure that the incident does not affect the peace of the community.”
In a WhatsApp message to our correspondent, Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo also verified the strange occurrence.
“The Command is well aware,” Ogunlowo stated. Around 13:30 on June 21, 2025, the event was reported to DPO Aregbe Division. He led a group to the location. When thunder and lightning hit amid a torrential shower of rain, 32 cows were killed.
