Following reports that police officers killed Emmanuella Ahenjir, a 23-year-old final-year student at the Federal University, Wukari, a protest has broken out in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.
Unknown police officers are accused of shooting and killing Emmanuella last Friday morning at the Wurukum roundabout as she was in a car travelling from the town’s Gyado Villa neighbourhood.

Prominent gender rights activist Ukan Kurugh has gathered demonstrators, primarily young people, onto the streets in response to the event, which has caused widespread indignation.

The demonstrators gathered in large numbers at the Wurukum roundabout, wielding placards with inscriptions such as “End Police Brutality” and “Justice for Emmanuella.”
The protesters are demanding a thorough investigation and immediate action from the authorities.
