Mohammed Magaji, 47, has been taken into custody on charges of raping his stepdaughter, age 2, in the Magaji neighbourhood of Tudun Wada, Shamaki Quarters, Gombe State.

DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the spokesman for the Gombe State Police Command, said in a news release on Tuesday that the event happened on May 5.

According to Abdullahi, the arrest came about as a result of a report from Magaji’s wife.

“On May 5, about 09:32am, a formal complaint was received from one Hauwau Usman of Tudun Wada, Shamaki quarters.

“Usman reported that on May 5, about 09:00am, her husband took his two-year-old step daughter to his room and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her,” he said.

According to Abdullahi, a group of police officers was sent to the area after receiving the report, and the suspect was taken into custody right away.

Both the suspect and the victim were brought to the Specialist Hospital for a medical examination, he continued.

He said that when the inquiry is over, the case would be prosecuted in court.

Isah Adamu, 35, of Golkos Quarters, Billiri Local Government Area, Gombe State, was also arrested by the Command in a separate incident for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl.

On May 5, the suspect reportedly enticed the juvenile into a house in Awai Quarters where he allegedly got carnal knowledge of her by force, according to Abdullahi.

He said the victim’s mother reported the incident to the police, who quickly responded by visiting the scene and arresting the suspect.

He added that both the suspect and the victim were taken to the General Hospital in Kaltungo for medical examination.

The police spokesperson noted that the investigation is still ongoing.

Abdullahi stated that the Command had successfully arrested 18 additional suspects in connection with various criminal activities reported across the state in recent weeks. (NAN)
