Tragedy rocked the Ogun State Television (OGTV) on Monday with the abrupt death of Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, a senior journalist, who fainted while preparing for her afternoon shift.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, announced her death in a statement late Tuesday.
After sagging at the OGTV premises, Mrs. Agbakaizu was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, where she was declared dead upon arrival, according to the NUJ.
The late journalist was a dedicated and dynamic professional whose services to the media business would be much missed, according to Mr. Bunmi Adigun, Secretary of the NUJ Ogun Council.
“Bukola Agbakaizu, a dedicated staff member of OGTV, tragically collapsed while getting ready for her afternoon duty. Despite all efforts to save her, she was confirmed dead at the hospital,” the statement read.

Adigun further noted that the deceased was not only a passionate journalist but also a strong unionist.
She previously served as Vice Chairman of the OGTV Chapel and was an ex-officio member of the current Wale Olanrewaju-led executive.
“Her vibrant personality and unwavering dedication to journalism have left an indelible mark. Her absence creates a void that will be difficult to fill,” he added.
Mrs. Agbakaizu, 52, is survived by her two children, her elderly mother, acquaintances, and coworkers.
Her passing was also deeply regretted by the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
The association commended Agbakaizu for her exceptional career and personal qualities in a condolence statement issued by Mrs. Sekinat Salam, its chairman.
“Ogun NAWOJ received the news of her death with great shock. It is a painful loss, especially at a time when her wealth of experience and leadership were most needed,” Salam stated.
