Otobi village in Benue State’s Akpa region of Otukpo LGA has been assaulted by gunmen.
An unknown number of people were allegedly murdered in the incident, which happened Tuesday at around 5:30 p.m., while many more were forced to leave the area.
The event was verified to The Intercept by Sewuese Anene, the spokesman for the Benue state police.
Anene stated that she awoke to the situation report, but she has not yet received any information.
“There was a call from the Otobi community and officers were dispatched there. But the officers who were sent are still there and they haven’t sent a report,” she said.

Gunmen have increased their murders and kidnappings in a number of Benue LGAS.
At least three people were slain by unidentified gunmen in the Mbasombo hamlet of the state’s Gwer East LGA on April 10.
According to reports, on March 10, suspected herdsmen attacked Katsina Ala LGA in the state, killing thirteen persons, including women and children.

According to reports, the gunmen assaulted a number of localities, including the Imande Gberihwa region of the state, Kpav, Dikpo, and Utange Council.
Residents of Otukpo, in the Benue South area, protested earlier this month against the ongoing murders and kidnappings.
The Otukpo-Enugu federal highway was occupied by demonstrators, the majority of whom were young people, who demanded that the government address the state’s increasing insecurity.
