Atiku Abubakar, a former presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, has denounced the support of President Bola Tinubu for a second term from the governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the National Assembly’s leadership, claiming that it is an indication of the party’s panic and desperation.
At the APC National Summit in Abuja on Friday, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced that Tinubu was the only candidate for president of the APC and Nigeria in 2027.
In response, Atiku stated that Nigerians’ support, not the political ploys of the governing party, is what counts.
The former vice president, through his media assistant Paul Ibe, stated that Tinubu’s government should not be distracted by presidential endorsements and instead concentrate on rescuing Nigeria from poverty and insecurity.

“When you’ve studied hard for an exam, you can sleep soundly the night before, waking up assured of success,” Ibe told reporters Wednesday in Abuja. That is our coalition’s stance.
“Nigerians are the ultimate judges. Their endorsements will determine the outcome, not the political manoeuvrings of the ruling party. The recent endorsements reveal the panicked state of this administration.

“Insecurity is at an unprecedented level, with territories being reclaimed by insurgents in Borno State and other regions. The cost of living is unbearable. Families struggle to feed themselves, access healthcare, or send their children to school.
“As school fees are due, many are weighed down by these burdens. Yet, the government has done little to address these challenges, choosing instead to focus on political games.”
