NTA’s Ladi Bala Elected NAWOJ National President

In a keenly contested election held over the weekend at Legbo Kutigi International Event Centre, Minna, the immediate past National Secretary of the body, Mrs Ladi Bala of NTA, emerged National President after getting 439 votes to beat three opponents, Aisha Ibrahim who scored 251 votes, Lucy Danjuma Chindaba - 85 votes and Ruth Abubakar  who got 48 votes.

A new National executive  to pilot the affairs of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ in the next three years, has been elected.

The national executive were elected in Minna, Niger State, during the NAWOJ 10th Triennial Delegates Conference tagged Minna 2020.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ established 31 years ago, comprise all female journalists practicing in Nigeria, and has continued to elect its national and zonal leaders through delegates from the different parts of the country.

In a keenly contested election held over the weekend at Legbo Kutigi International Event Centre, Minna, the immediate past National Secretary of the body, Mrs Ladi Bala of NTA, emerged NAWOJ National President after getting 439 votes to beat three opponents, Aisha Ibrahim who scored 251 votes, Lucy Danjuma Chindaba – 85 votes and Ruth Abubakar  who got 48 votes.

A former Chairperson of Rivers state, Lilian Okonkwo-Ogabu was announced Deputy National President, after winning 431 votes defeated her opponent, Timinepere Jombo Idoko who scored 372 votes.

A former National Assistant Secretary, Helen John Udofa from Akwa Ibom State became the National Secretary after getting 547 votes, defeating Daharatu Ahmed Aliyu who had 265 votes.

For National Treasurer, Fatimah Rasheed from state became the Treasurer after scoring 469 votes beaating Nma Ozioma Onwuka-Okereke with 216 votes and Nkechi Ogazi who had 126 votes.

Dorothy Abellegah became the Internal Auditor with 446 votes against her opponent Chiwendu Nnadozie who had 334 votes.

The NAWOJ Vice Presidents and Secretaries of the various zones were also elected, while some were unopposed, including the Zonal Secretary of Zone F, Comrade Eunice Emeyazia, of the Delta Broadcasting Service Asaba, Delta State.

Inaugurating the Executive, the NUJ President, Chris Isiguzo urged them to work as a team and extend hands of fellowship to those who could not win the election.

The immediate past NAWOJ President, Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole urged the new executive to improve on the gains of the past administration and learn from their weaknesses.

The newly sworn in NAWOJ National President, Ladi Bala on behalf of her executive, thanked the people for the confidence reposed in them and promised to make them proud.
