More airlines that continue to break consumer protection laws will face penalties, according to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The plan was revealed on Tuesday by NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu.
The announcement was made over a month after five airlines were fined by the authorities for similar infractions.
Air Peace and Ethiopian Airlines, Arik Air, Aero Contractors, and Royal Air Maroc were all sanctioned by the aviation authorities on December 28, 2024, for violating Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations of 2023.
According to the NCAA, the infractions include non-compliance with authority directions, short-landed cargo, lost and mishandled luggage, problems with aircraft delays and cancellations, and failing to reimburse customers within the allotted period.
Achimugu gave an update, stating that on February 7, the airlines were issued letters of punishment for violations of consumer protection.
He noted, “The 5 airlines against whom the NCAA initiated enforcement action in December received their Letters of Sanction for Consumer Protection-related infractions last Friday, February 7, 2025.”

“The airlines include Aero Contractors, Arik Air, Air Peace, Royal Air Maroc, and Ethiopian Airways.
“Meanwhile, the NCAA is preparing heavier sanctions against more airlines for the same infractions.
“The Authority remains committed to protecting the rights of all stakeholders.”
On Saturday, the NCAA decided to implement “maximum enforcement action” against Kenya Airways due to multiple consumer protection violations.
