Nora Aunor, a legendary Philippine actress, has died at age 71. The sad news of her demise was shared in an Instagram post by the actress’ daughter, Lotlot de Leon.
Lotlot de Leon confirmed she passed away on Wednesday, April 16th.
However, the cause of her death was not disclosed.
“Nora Aunor, May 21, 1953 to April 16, 2025. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nora Aunor, our beloved mother, celebrated television and movie actress, and a true National Artist of the Philippines,” she wrote.
“Born on May 21, 1953, she touched generations with her unmatched talent, grace, and passion for the craft. Her voice, presence, and artistry shaped a legacy that will never fade.
“She was a star not only on screen but in the hearts of many stars like hers, never stop shining.
“Funeral service details to follow. We thank everyone for their love and support and ask for continued prayers during this time of mourning.
“Her light lives on forever loved, never forgotten.”
Kristoffer Ian De Leon, her son, also took to Facebook to mourn the actress while describing her as the “heart of our family”.
“With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved mother, Nora C. Villamayor Nora Aunor” who left us on today April 16, 2025 at the age of 71,” he wrote.
She was the heart of our family. A source of unconditional love, strength, and warmth.
Her kindness, wisdom, and beautiful spirit touched everyone who knew her. She will be missed beyond words and remembered forever.”
Born Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, Aunor rose to fame in the 1960s as a singer before transitioning into acting. Her first break came when cast in 1967’s ‘All Over the World’.

In a career that spanned several decades, she featured in over 200 films. Some of the movies include ‘Andrea, Paano ba ang Maging Isang Ina?’, ‘Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos’ (Three Years Without God), ‘Bulaklak sa City Jail’ (“Flowers of the City Jail) and ‘The Flor Contemplacion Story’.
In 2022, Aunor was named a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts – the country’s biggest honour for actors.
Considered by many Filipinos as their country’s greatest actress and singer, Aunor also won several local and international awards.
President Ferdinand Marcos described her as “a gift to the Filipino nation”.
“Throughout her splendid career that spanned more than 50 years, she was our consummate actress, singer, and film producer.
Her golden voice was a balm for all. Her genius was a gift to the Filipino nation.”
Aunor was married to actor Christopher de León from 1975 until 1996.
She is survived by their children Lotlet, Ian, Matet, Kiko and Kenneth de León.
American star actress Michelle Trachtenberg, famous for her roles in ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, has died at age 39.
The actress was found unresponsive by her mother on Wednesday, February 26th, in an apartment complex.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) also revealed that she was found “unconscious and unresponsive” and pronounced dead by EMS workers.
The cause of death is yet to be disclosed, however, it was reported that Michelle recently underwent liver transplant surgery.
It was also revealed that the actress had struggled with alcohol issues for several years. Michelle first appeared on television at the age of three in a commercial. She went on to feature in several others before moving into acting.
She however started gaining traction for her role in the ‘Adventures of Pete and Pete’, the Nickelodeon TV series that aired from 1994-1996.
Her big break came after she starred in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which won her a Young Artist award and earned her three Saturn Awards nominations.
