Actress Yvonne Jegede has faulted remarks made by Pastor Femi Lazarus on the menstrual periods of women.
Lazarus claimed that women’s mood fluctuations during menstruation are more a result of their attitude than their biology in a sermon that provoked online uproar.
“You are not the first woman to see your period, so your menstruation is not the problem. I have never seen anywhere in the Bible any woman complain about menstrual pain. You are simply not a peaceful person,” he said.
Many criticized Lazarus’s remarks for being disrespectful and ill-informed about women’s experiences.
Yvonne Jegede stressed the importance of kindness and understanding when talking about women’s health difficulties and advised men to be more tolerant and not assume about experiences they haven’t encountered.
She wrote:
“Yesterday I saw a trending video of a clergyman seemingly trivialising menstrual pain.
“If you’ve never experienced the hormonal changes that women go through during their periods, ovulations and pregnancy, please don’t make bold statements about things you haven’t experienced. Men please be kind”.
