Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has revealed that he left performing in 2019 because he was dissatisfied with his work and thought the pay was insufficient.
In a recent interview on the CreativiTea podcast, the actor discussed his professional background.
He clarified that his dissatisfaction with the calibre of jobs offered and their pay at the time was the reason for his decision to quit the profession.
The “Blood Sisters” actor claimed that after leaving a traditional 9–5 job, he was now working at a job that he deemed to be subpar.

He said that the lack of fulfilment made it hard to go on, so he went back to working for corporations.
“So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay and the work were nonsense. And I just felt like I didn’t leave 9 – 5 work to come and do mediocre work.

“It was difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work, and what is the point of being passionate about something and then not being fulfilled by it. So I quit and then went back to 9-5 work”, he said.
Okanlawon has since returned to acting and is now regarded as one of Nollywood’s leading actors in film and television.
Nigerian singer YCee has responded to criticism for his contentious remarks on the country’s current “brain-rot” content trend, which he called the “olodo uprising”.
YCee caused a stir when he used well-known TikToker Peller as an example of what he called the “olodo uprising,” in which Nigerians are increasingly turning to “brain-rot” content for amusement at the expense of edutainment.
He was criticised by some for using Peller as an example, claiming that he could have made his argument without mentioning Peller by name.
In response, YCee stated in a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos that he doesn’t owe anyone an apology for butteressing Peller.
He said, “Some people are saying I shouldn’t have called Peller’s name, but I said what I said. If you feel offended, you should check yourself.
A lot of people are also taking what I said out of context. The olodo uprising is even worse than I thought because there are so many people coming out to defend it.
“My call is to people that are tired of brain-rot contents. There is no reason why intelligent people cannot be streamers or content creators.”
