The Kwara State police command has detained eight people about the alleged disappearance of a two-month-old.
The event took place in the Zango neighbourhood of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, on May 25, 2025.
The state police commissioner, Adekimi Ojo, revealed at a press conference in Ilorin on Saturday that Aishat Tahiru of No. 9 Maiduku area, Zango, in Ilorin, had reported a troubling case of a missing child to the Kulende police station. Ojo also announced the arrest of 37 suspects involved in various crimes.
According to the commissioner, “Aishat stated that at about 2130hours, while observing her evening prayers, she left her two months old baby Adam Tahiru asleep on the sofa in her room. Shortly after, she instructed her daughter Mariam, to check on her, but to her dismay, the child was nowhere to be found.”

Ojo said, “An alarm was raised immediately, prompting neighbours to search the vicinity, but despite efforts, the baby could not be located.
“The matter was subsequently escalated and transferred to the state criminal investigation department, SCID, Ilorin on May 27,2025 for in-depth investigation.”
The police commissioner said that during the investigation, the lifeless body of baby Adam Tahiru was discovered in a well within the same community.

“Following intelligence gathering and preliminary findings, eight suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation at the state CID,” he added.
Ojo further alluded to the fact that state police command agents were diligently trying to solve the kidnapping of multimillionaire fuel merchant Abbas Daniyan and his manager, Abubakar Issa, who were taken some 23 days ago from Gbugbu town in the state’s Edu Local Government Area.
He said that three other kidnapping occurrences had occurred following the May 10, 2025, kidnapping story of the two individuals, and that the police had started searching the forest for the offenders.
Additional individuals were taken into custody on charges of criminal conspiracy, receiving stolen goods, conspiring to conduct abduction, illegal firearm possession, aiding and abetting, culpable murder, and breaking, among other offences.
