Police in Aba, Abia State, have detained a man named Ugochukwu Ezechinyere on suspicion of conspiring with his spouse to harm his 7-year-old biological son, Master Ugochukwu Destiny.
Following a referral to the governor’s wife’s office, which instructed the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs to take immediate action, the arrest was made.
According to information obtained by The Intercept, a whistleblower revealed the boy’s suffering at his father’s house at No. 27 Ugo Street, off Adaelu Road, Aba.

In response to the report, a Ministry team headed by Mrs. Josephine Onulaka, the Director of boy Development, collected the boy from his school on behalf of Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs.

According to the Commissioner’s representative, who was speaking at the school, the State government would place the rescued youngster in protective care in accordance with the state’s child protection procedures.
Noting that additional investigations had been started at the suspects’ home, she asked the public to be on the lookout and to report any abuse of kids to her Ministry or to law authorities.
In his own words, young Ugochukwu, a Basic 1 student, described how his father, Mr. Ezechinyere Ugochukwu, and his (Destiny’s) stepmother, simply known as Kelechi, repeatedly harassed him. He sobbed that the suspects beat him with a wooden stick and sharp objects and left him to suffer in agony.
