A man’s body was found floating in a river in Ibokun village, Obokun local government area, Osun State, on Wednesday. The guy was reported missing earlier in the week.
Community members said the deceased, Kehinde Ijebu, was a resident who disappeared on Tuesday without a trace.
The body was identified as belonging to Kehinde by family members and locals who hurried to the spot.
He was thought to have intentionally entered the river, and his recent health issues were mentioned as a potential contributing reason.
Kehinde has recently displayed indications of emotional turmoil, according to a neighbour who asked to remain anonymous.
He said, “He went missing on Tuesday, and we could not find him. But on Wednesday, some people alerted us to a floating body on the Oyile River in Ibokun.
“The belief is that he drowned himself in the river due to a health challenge he had.

“His whereabouts were not known since Tuesday evening. Some people in the neighbourhood concluded he had disappeared as he used to do.”
Eyewitnesses reportedly spotted the corpse drifting on the river’s surface early Wednesday morning.
“His dead body was noticed floating on the river by passersby, who notified us. The matter was reported to the police,” the same resident added.
Following the discovery, local customs were observed before Kehinde was buried near the river.
“He was buried at the bank of the river around 11 am on Wednesday,” the resident said, noting that traditional rites were carried out beforehand.
Abiodun Ojelabi, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, acknowledged the occurrence when called and made it clear that no foul play was suspected right away.
“The incident happened. There were no marks of violence on his body. The family approached us that they wanted to bury him, but we suggested an autopsy, which they objected to.
“They said they wanted to bury him. I can’t say how or where he was buried. Investigation is still ongoing into the matter,” she stated.
