Kidnappers kidnapped six residents of Hayin Gizo, a peaceful neighbourhood of Garun Kurama in Kaduna State’s Lere Local Government Area, early on Sunday morning.
In a horrifying operation that lasted until three in the morning, the kidnappers, armed with lethal weapons, broke into the neighbourhood around 1:30 in the morning, a source told The Intercept.
According to him, “the kidnappers took six able-bodied men and one woman. The woman was later released along the way due to her frail health condition.”

He explained that among those kidnapped were two Igbos who are traders in the community.

He appealed to security agencies and well-meaning individuals to intervene swiftly to secure the safe return of the captives.
He described the victims as peasant farmers living from hand to mouth, urging the kidnappers to show mercy, as their families cannot afford ransom payments.
The Intercept reports that Lere, alongside Kauru, Kachia, Zango Kataf, and Jema’a Local Government Areas, has faced a surge in kidnappings and attacks by unknown gunmen in recent months.
