Simon Agbo, an official with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen in Makurdi, Benue State.
According to family sources, Agbo was outside his house with two neighbours on Sunday at about 7:5 p.m. when the event happened.
In order to frighten away the locals, the gunmen fired multiple rounds into the air before capturing the cop at gunpoint after storming the area behind Modern Market and across from NKST Church in Kuan.
The kidnappers took the victim, who had just been redeployed from Kwara State to the Benue State Command in February, and took him away to an unidentified location.

Massive searches were conducted by community teenagers and vigilante organisations to ensure his release, but his kidnappers managed to get away.
According to Agbo’s younger brother, there were suspicions since one of the neighbours kept asking the police to go back home that night.
“He kept calling, insisting my brother come home or share his location. They were outside talking when the attackers struck, targeting only my brother,” he said.

Since then, the neighbour has been taken into jail by the police while they do more investigation.
The family has been contacted by his kidnappers, who are want N20 million in ransom.
As of the time this story was filed, attempts to verify the occurrence with NIS personnel and CSP Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, had failed.
