Mohammed Mohammed, a seven-year-old kid in Niger State’s Emiliman Nasarafu Ward 2 B of the Bida Local Council, is said to have died in a severe flood.
The flood happened on Thursday, June 26, 2025, following two hours of intense rain between five and seven in the morning.
A local eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous blamed the flood on Arab Contractors, the company in charge of building a one-kilometre Man Musa Kodogi/Nasarafu bypass route, diverting drainage that carried a lot of water.
The source claimed that the contractor’s actions led to the destruction of buildings and business premises in the area due to the large volume of diverted water.
The source claims that the boy’s body has not been located despite a communal search and rescue effort.
Mohammed Usman, the father of the deceased youngster, told reporters that once the rain stopped, the late Mohammed was taken to a neighbourhood, but the river eventually caught up with him.

According to him, “My pain is that, up to this moment, my son’s body has not been found. Immediately after the rain stopped, the entire community embarked on the search and rescue mission, but yet, we have not found the body.”
Mohammed, however, submitted the incident to the will of Allah, saying, “From Allah we come, and unto Him we shall return.”
Recall that on Saturday, June 14, 2025, a heavy rainstorm ravaged the community, which resulted in the collapse of buildings, a bridge, culvert, and business premises—an incident also attributed to the road construction.
The spokesperson of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Hussaini Ibrahim, when contacted, explained that the agency is conducting an assessment of the incident, saying, “After the findings, the State Government will respond accordingly.”
