Dr Mustapha Abdullahi has emerged as the new President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), following his victory at the election held today in Abuja during the elective congress.
He defeated former D’Tigers captain Olumide Oyedeji and former international Ejike Ugboaja at Thursday’s elective congress in Abuja to succeed Musa Ahmadu Kida, who served for eight years as President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
Abdullahi secured 40 of the 48 votes cast, enough to make him the winner. Oyedeji secured eight votes, while Ugboaja failed to secure any votes. Igoche Mark, who was supposed to be the fourth contestant, withdrew from the race, citing concerns about fairness and credibility.
Meanwhile, Ugo Udezue emerged as NBBF Vice-President unopposed, having been the sole candidate for the position.
According to The Guardian, the election took place while a court case challenging its legality was still ongoing. The Federal High Court in Abuja postponed the case until November 3, 2026, allowing the election to go ahead as planned. Former D’Tigers coach Ayodele Olaseinde Bakare filed the case against the NBBF and the National Sports Commission.
