A fresh tide of hope has swept through the Niger Delta as the Niger Delta Development Agenda (NDDA) has thrown its full weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bold appointments to the newly established South-South Development Commission (SSDC), hailing the move as a “defining moment” for the region’s long-awaited transformation.
In a strongly worded statement, NDDA Convener, Comrade Iteveh Nurudeen Ekpokpobe, celebrated the appointment of Hon. Chibudom Nwuche as Chairman of the SSDC and Usoro Offiong Akpabio as its Managing Director. He also extended commendations to the entire slate of executive members, calling them “game changers” chosen to reengineer the region’s developmental trajectory.
Iteveh described the creation of the SSDC as a masterstroke by President Tinubu, particularly following the dissolution of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development. According to him, this new structure represents a strategic move to fast-track progress, streamline leadership, and deliver real dividends to Niger Delta communities.

The NDDA also showered praise on Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the National Assembly for their legislative foresight and dedication to the region’s development. “This is not just another commission — it is the heartbeat of a renewed promise,” the NDDA declared.
Backing the appointments “in every material particular,” the group urged all stakeholders to rally behind the commission’s leadership.

Other members of the SSDC management team include: Hon. Marcus Nie Eji (Executive Director, Projects), Engr. Aganaba Preye Steven (Executive Director, Social and Human Capital Development), Dr. Timi Alari Ayibatonye (Executive Director, Corporate Services), Hon. Joseph Ugheoke (Executive Director, Commercial and Environmental Development), and Ambassador Sony Abang (Executive Director, Finance), among others.
With expectations running high, the SSDC is now under intense public and regional scrutiny — and hope — to deliver on its promises and reshape the destiny of the Niger Delta.
