Two Nigerian Correctional Service employees have been suspended by the federal government in response to an effort to get an international passport for a detainee.
Umar Abubakar, the service’s public relations officer and deputy controller of prisons, confirmed the suspension in a statement on Saturday.
The event was “discovered through the automated passport application and other holistic reforms within the Nigeria Immigration Service,” according to Abubakar.
The Ministry of Interior’s agencies worked together to make the discovery feasible.

The occurrence, which happened around two weeks ago, was inappropriate and prohibited since it went against established policies and procedures.
According to Abubakar, “the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubumni Tunji-Ojo, took necessary disciplinary actions, including suspending the two correctional personnel implicated in the incident.”

“The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, has reiterated his commitment to upholding discipline, transparency, and professionalism in all custodial centres across the country.
“The Service categorically states that any personnel found engaging in acts of misconduct, corruption, or sabotage will be shown the way out of the system.”
