The Mbaivur settlement, which is situated in Mbahimin close to the Air Force Base in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, was apparently the target of a new attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen early on Sunday.
Residents of Tse Hyiongo, a village in the Mbaivur region, were in a state of widespread terror after the attackers broke in on Saturday and stayed there until early Sunday morning, according to information obtained by The Intercept.
According to reports, the onslaught continued for hours without any discernible action from the local security personnel.

Witnesses revealed that as gunfire echoed across the town, terrified inhabitants escaped from their houses.
The exact number of victims was unknown at the time this report was filed.

The attack on Mbaivur comes barely 24 hours after a similar invasion in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of the state, where over 200 people were reportedly killed in one of the deadliest massacres in recent times.
As of Sunday morning, efforts to get official statements from the Benue State Police Command and the Nigerian Air Force authorities in Makurdi were unsuccessful.
