Yar Tashar Sahabi village in Maru LGA, Zamfara State, was the target of a new retaliatory attack by bandits early on Tuesday.
The assailants rustled animals and set cars and stores on fire.
The attack came after a Sunday ambush by local vigilantes, according to the residents, which resulted in the recovery of stolen cattle and the deaths of numerous bandits.
“They came at dawn, torched our shops and vehicles, and made away with our animals,” a resident told Daily Trust.

Security forces stationed in nearby Magami responded quickly and repelled the attackers, preventing further destruction.
This is the latest in a string of retaliatory attacks across Zamfara.
In Tsafe LGA, several villages have faced similar assaults in recent weeks.

Earlier in the month, bandits attacked Keta village after the killing of gang leader Dan Isuhu. One resident was killed, 11 vehicles were burned, and shops were looted. That same day, gunmen attacked Gidan Arne, killing two and abducting over 40 women.
The Zamfara State Police Command, through DSP Yazid Abubakar, said it had no knowledge of the Yar Tashar Sahabi incident but promised to follow up with the local Divisional Officer.
