Bello El-Rufai, the representative from Kaduna North in the House of Representatives, has stated that he was foolish to have insulted former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Bello, the son of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, apologised for his criticism of Jonathan’s government.
The legislator from Kaduna said that because of his ignorance, he was unaware that Jonathan had provided good administration for Nigeria.
The legislator claimed to be wiser today when appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday night.
Bello claimed that as he witnessed his father getting ready to travel to Jonathan for political advice, his naivete became apparent.
He recalled paying his father a visit and noticed that he was going out. He asked where he was going.

Bello said: “And he said he was going to see President Jonathan, and I paused because when I was naive or when I thought ego or gratification mattered, I used to be very active in criticising President Jonathan.
“I even forgot in my naivety as many young people do, that we had governance then and I found my father saying that he is going to consult President Jonathan. I said, ‘please when you see him, tell him I am very sorry, I am wiser now’.

“The system is a problem. Now, why did I mention President Jonathan? It takes a lot, particularly in Africa, to lose an election and leave, he did that.”
At first, El-Rufai and Jonathan got along well, and he even encouraged Jonathan to run for president in 2011.
El-Rufai and his family reportedly harshly criticised Jonathan’s government following the election of Namadi Sambo as vice president.
