Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, may be gathering in Abuja on Sunday to debate the future in light of the recent wave of defections in the main opposition party.
According to The Intercept, the PDP has had a difficult two weeks as members have continued to leave for the governing All Progressives Congress, or APC.
The most recent wave started on April 23 when Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, led Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor, and the entire PDP apparatus in the state to defect to the governing party.

Just a week after the governors met in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, and announced their interest in any coalition negotiations leading up to the general elections in 2027, they defected.
The three senators from Kebbi State elected on the PDP platform are also headed to the APC, according to sources familiar with the situation.

The emergency meeting is set to take place at the Bauchi State Governors’ Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, and may also cover some issues related to the National Executive Committee, or NEC, meeting that is scheduled for May 27.
The PDP governors distanced themselves from the coalition led by their former presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
