EXCLUSIVE: Delta Governor’s Students’ Aide In N58 Million Embezzlement Scandal

In total, over N58 million naira have been allegedly embezzled by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the governor, occupied by Mr Jerry Ehiwario.

Jerry Ehiwario, Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Student Affairs, has allegedly embezzled over 50 million naira, being funds meant for programmes for the Delta State Students community in the past six years of the incumbent government of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

Documents made available to The Union Nigeria by sources, confirm approvals for different students programmes which the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU) has denied their execution.

Timeline for the projects included, “segment of interactive town hall meetings with various organs of the comrade community in First Edition and second edition gulping twenty million naira each.

Other projects include the “First Ever Delta State Students Joint Christian Campus Fellowship (JCCF) Prayer Conference with the first and second editions gulping 3.5 million naira each and the third edition taking five million naira.

Furthermore, an “End Of Year Summit/ 4th Edition Of Delta State Comrades Community Football Tournament for 2019 and 2020” respectively, gulped the sum of three million Naira each.

In total, over N58 million naira have been allegedly embezzled by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the governor, occupied by Mr Jerry Ehiwario.

NADESSTU Calls For Sack, Probe of Ehiwario

Confirming The Union Nigeria investigation, the leadership of NADESSTU are calling for the Immediate Removal of Comr. Ehiwario Jerry as the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Delta State on Students Affairs.

They are also calling for “a Critical Check into His Office for Series of approvals he has gotten on behalf of the Delta State Comrade community.”

In a statement jointly signed by the President, Comrade Godwin Saturday and Secretary, Comrade Etere Gideon, said they have always believed that the state governor, Senator Okowa cared less about the student community in the state until their latest discovery.

“Your Excellency, a man who collects from the Government in the name of the Community and comes to lie to the community is unfit to represent the Community.

“We have been tagged as ungrateful for not showing signs of gratitude despite His Excellency’s series of approval.

“We are also calling on His Excellency to do a proper cum clinical audit on the office of the SSA since 2015 as regards the series of approval made for the Comrade Community.”  The statement read.

NADESTTU Senate Counters Exco

The Senate of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU) has countered the position of the executive.

In a statement signed by the Senate President, Comrade Ododwu Hyacent, Deputy Sentae President, Comrade Oyali Azubu and Acting Clerk, Comrade Akpoyibo Innocent Efe, the senate stated that “all the projects listed… after investigation from the NADESSTU senate arm were all discovered to be purely initiatives of the SSA student affairs.”

“In which some of the programmes have been done while others are in the final stages of execution. The student community are happy with the performance of the SSA student affairs, Comrade Jerry Ehiwario.” Part of the statement read.

Ehiwario Runs From Press

All efforts to contact Mr Jerry Ehiwario for his response on the allegations proved abortive. Text messages were sent to his phone but were neither acknowledged nor responded to.

An early phone call place on his line showed he was on another call. Further calls place on him were neither answered nor returned. A reminder text message sent to him was also ignored.
