Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered a colossal 111-56 defeat to France, ending their FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 campaign on a winless streak today in Berlin, Germany.
The result means the African champions finished their Group B campaign with three consecutive defeats after previously losing to Korea and Hungary on matchdays one and two.
Nigeria had already been eliminated from contention for the quarter-finals before facing France, with reaching the final phase only a possibility if they had won against France. Meanwhile, the French side had already secured their place in the last eight.
France dominated the contest from the opening stages and eventually recorded a 55-point victory over the D’Tigress.
The defeat brings an end to Nigeria’s campaign at the World Cup, two years after the team made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by becoming the first African women’s basketball team to reach the Olympic quarter-finals.
Despite the disappointing World Cup outing, D’Tigress remain the reigning African champions, having won the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 to secure their place at the 2026 World Cup.
