FIFA has accepted the resignation of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau and members of the federation’s executive committee, according to National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko.
According to Dikko, the development followed Tuesday’s meeting at FIFA House in Zurich, where the National Sports Commission, FIFA, CAF and the NFF administration discussed the next steps towards establishing an inclusive, peaceful and stable football administration capable of delivering sustainable success for Nigerian football, both on and off the pitch.
Dikko, who led the Nigerian delegation, said the ongoing engagements would help establish a clear roadmap in line with the relevant rules, regulations and statutes.
The process is expected to cover the short, medium and long term, with the shared objective of building a stronger and properly structured Nigerian football ecosystem.
Gusau and members of the NFF executive committee resigned from their positions on August 27, 2026, at the NFF office in Abuja, where the president announced his resignation.
The NFF elective congress scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, was already in doubt before the resignations.
The uncertainty followed concerns raised by the National Sports Commission over the state of Nigerian football, including the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup and the poor performances of several national teams in recent competitions under Gusau’s administration.
