Famous Nollywood actor Charles Inojie has expressed his opinions about the employability of many Nigerian graduates.
The actor claimed that a sizeable portion lacks sufficient knowledge and abilities in their chosen fields of study.
Speaking as he recalled meeting a graduate on a film set, Inojie was disappointed by what he called the graduate’s “poor understanding of a course the individual studied at the university.”

He claims that even though linguistics was merely an elective for him, the graduate found it difficult to participate in a conversation about the field.
“I was having a discussion with someone on set; she now said she studied Linguistics.
She was so surprised and couldn’t believe it when I said, ‘Oh, all these Noam Chomsky children.’ ” she struggled to engage in a discussion about the discipline, even though Linguistics was only an elective course for Inojie.”
The actor noted that the experience reinforced concerns about the quality of knowledge possessed by some graduates.

“I was really disappointed in her and that thing dey worry me. I’ve heard people say that a good number of our graduates today are not employable. That statement no too far from the truth o. That is why many of them are not willing to work,” Inojie added.
He maintained that many young people are reluctant to take up jobs because they lack sufficient understanding of the fields they studied, despite holding academic qualifications.
In June, YCee responded to criticism for his contentious remarks on the country’s current “brain-rot” content trend, which he called the “olodo uprising”.
YCee caused a stir when he used well-known TikToker Peller as an example of what he called the “olodo uprising,” in which Nigerians are increasingly turning to “brain-rot” content for amusement at the expense of edutainment.
He was criticised by some for using Peller as an example, claiming that he could have made his argument without mentioning Peller by name.
In response, YCee stated in an interview with Cool FM Lagos that he doesn’t owe anyone an apology for buttering Peller.
He said, “Some people are saying I shouldn’t have called Peller’s name, but I said what I said. If you feel offended, you should check yourself.
A lot of people are also taking what I said out of context. The olodo uprising is even worse than I thought because there are so many people coming out to defend it.
“My call is to people that are tired of brain-rot contents. There is no reason why intelligent people cannot be streamers or content creators.”
