Afrobeats superstar Folarin Odunlami, also known as Fola, has recounted how he was arrested and spent the night in a police station on the day he relocated to Lagos to launch his music career.
The ‘Alone’ crooner stated that it almost made him give up on his dreams.
In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM Lagos, Fola explained that his resilience has helped him to adapt to the Lagos lifestyle.

“I relocated to Lagos in 2018 to pursue my music career. It has been rough but… I wasn’t born here, so it was so hard at first but I have adapted to both the living conditions and the hustle.
“The very first day I came to Lagos, I assumed arrested. I slept at the police station. It was a long story. I don’t want to remember it. I almost gave up,” he recalled.
Fola became popular after he was signed to famous singer Bella Shurmda’s Dagbani Republik in October 2024.
His hit song “Alone” shot him to fame. Fola has since collaborated with Afrobeats stars such as Wizkid and Kizz Daniel.

“Growing up in school, everybody would be like ‘aren’t you going to be like your dad or won’t you play music? I was pressured to be like my father.
“If I wanted to play music, I had to be Femi Kuti. Used the same mathematical thought that I cannot be Fela. I started wearing the same outfits with my father because I used to stay with my mother before I ran away to live with him.
“Was like mini Fela because he usually dresses me like himself. I just thought I should better look for myself fast, or I’m going to be a very unhappy man. So I went back to my mother.
