Afrobeats singer Ruger says he donated his first music earnings of ₦500,000 entirely to the church.
He discussed his financial journey during a recent interview with VJ Adams.
The “Asiwaju” hitmaker recounted how his early payments grew from ₦500,000 to ₦1 million and beyond within a year.
“At every point in my career, I felt happy with what I had because it got bigger each time. My first payment was like ₦500k when I first came out, and I can remember how I gave everything to the church.
”I didn’t use it, and the next payment was like a million, and I was so happy. Buying parfaits and stuff, and more millions came in the space of a year,” he said.

Ruger admitted that money transforms perspectives, countering claims that it doesn’t change people.
He noted that wealth alters how one addresses and approaches life’s challenges.
“Money changes everybody; don’t mind what others say. A lot of things change when you start making money; the way you address things and the way you approach things Is different.

“Some people are so rich that they don’t stress at all, that’s the point where I want to get. You see Jay Z? No matter how many times he’s called out, he never speaks. That’s the kind of money I want,” he said.
In May, Ruger revealed how he was traumatised by his first “heartbreak” at a tender age.
The ‘Toma Toma’ crooner shared that he experienced his first heartbreak at the age of 6 after he saw an older lady, who had teased him about being his girlfriend, sleeping with a man.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Bro Bants show, Ruger said he was traumatised by the experience and became toxic growing up.
He said,
“The last time that I experienced heartbreak I was very very young. There was this aunty that I liked, she used to call me ‘my boyfriend.’ So, I assumed that she was my woman. I was just 6 years old.

“I got heartbroken because one day, I saw some guy smashing her through her window. The guy was tearing her up, bro. I cried. as traumatised. I started singing ‘Imagine That’ by Styl-Plus. That was what started my toxicity. That experience broke my heart.”
