A new revelation has surfaced on Chidiebere Ohama, the accused vandal who was detained in Umuahia last week for allegedly stealing a ladder from the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, (EEDC).
Before being turned over to the police for appropriate prosecution, Ohama was taken into custody by a vigilante group at Mission Hill, Umuahia.
The defendant and his crew, according to Mr Ikenna Sochima, the owner of a hotel on New Road in Umuahia, climbed a ladder into his building in July 2025 and broke into a guest room, stealing cash and other items from one of his visitors.

“My guest raised an alarm when he came back to his room and discovered that his belongings were gone.
“I immediately checked our CCTV footage and saw the faces of the suspects. I alerted the Operation Crush security team, who moved into the forest area known as ‘Down Below’ and identified Chidiebere when his picture was shown to the hoodlums there,” Sochima said.
Sochima said Ohama was apprehended, confronted with the evidence, and confessed to the crime before being handed over to the police at that time.
The hotel proprietor expressed surprise that the suspect, who was arrested for vandalism, claimed that the ladder theft was his first time of involvement in crime.
