Anthony Kila, a political commentator, has been permanently barred from ARISE News’ television network due to accusations that he misrepresented his academic credentials.
The news station stated that the decision was made in response to an investigation by Premium Times regarding Kila’s academic credentials in a disclaimer released by its Editorial Board and read during its morning broadcast.
According to the organisation, Kila was approached on October 3, 2026, so he could address the accusations.
Ten days after the initial contact, Kila asked for more time to respond, but she hasn’t given a reason, according to ARISE News.
“He asked for more time to respond to the claims. He has not responded 10 days after,” the statement said.
The channel added that the allegations had continued to intensify, making it difficult for Kila to continue appearing on its platform.
“In the circumstances, we find that his contributions to the ARISE News Channel are no longer tenable,” the disclaimer stated.

ARISE News stressed that it was unaware of the allegations when Kila appeared on its programmes as a freelance political analyst.
The channel said it took issues relating to credibility and integrity seriously, adding that it had taken note of the findings published by Premium Times.
“Mr Kila will not be appearing on our networks at any time now or in the future, effective immediately,” the statement added.
The Editorial Board said the decision took immediate effect.
In September, Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, was permitted by a federal high court in Abuja to serve President Bola Tinubu with court documents in his lawsuit contesting the president’s eligibility for the 2027 elections.
After considering an ex parte motion submitted by Atiku’s attorney, Olanrewaju Omotayo-Ojo, the presiding judge, Inyang Ekwo, approved the request for substituted service on Wednesday.
Within seven days, the judgment mandated that Tinubu receive the proceedings via the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The plaintiffs’ incapacity to physically serve Tinubu with the originating process in the lawsuit designated FHC/ABJ/CS/1888/2026 prompted the order.
Atiku and the ADC are the plaintiffs in the suit, while Tinubu, APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are the first to third defendants, respectively.
At the hearing, Omotayo-Ojo, who held the brief of Silas Onu, told the court that the application for substituted service was filed because efforts to serve Tinubu personally had been unsuccessful.
