Isah Mohammad, 26, was given a two-year jail term by an Ekiti State Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti for stealing an iron rod.
On August 19, 2024, the prisoner was charged before Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola on a single count of theft-related offences.
According to the accusation, on July 30, 2024, in Ado Ekiti, the defendant stole iron rods worth 200,000 naira that were intended to be used in the construction of a home owned by Adejibola Ademola.
The prosecution claims that the offence violates section 302 of the Ekiti State 2021 Criminal Laws.
Ezekiel Akinola, the site supervisor, said in court that the house being built is situated on New Iyin Road.
”The home had gotten to lintel level. The iron rods were kept to complete the lintel of the house. I went to the site on 8th August, 2024 and discovered the Iron rods had been stolen.

”However, the defendant and his friends had been troubling this community and also been giving us sleepless nights”, he concluded.
To prove his case, the prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Adesegun called four witnesses and tendered defendant statements, and the Iron rods as exhibit.
The convict spoke through his counsel, Lanre Oluwasola Esq., he called no witnesses.
In his judgement, Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola said the fact and circumstances of this case clearly pointed to the guilt of the defendant.
I am therefore of the firm view that the evidence led by the prosecution in the circumstances of this case is adequate enough, since the evidence did implicate the defendant regarding the commission of the offences as charged against him.

I therefore hold that the prosecution has proved the offence as charged against the defendant in the absence of any cogent and compelling defence from the defendant before this court.
The issue for determination in this case is hereby resolved in favour of the prosecution as against the defendant.
The defendant is hereby convicted as charged. He is accordingly sentenced to two years imprisonment with #5,000 option of fine in lieu of imprisonment.
His sentence dates back to the day of his incarceration, he pronounced.
