With the horrific killing of two graduates of the Nigeria Delta University, which is owned by Bayelsa State, at Gbarantoru Community in the state’s Yenagoa Local Government Area, the Bayelsa State Police Command said that it had detained 17 suspects.

The intercept on Friday night, Metro learnt that members of the Rapid Response Squad, led by CSP Bishop Elemide, conducted a stop and search operation along Amassoma Road and apprehended the suspects.

The 17 suspects include four accused cybercriminals who reportedly funded the murders of Ayaokpo Sinclair and his associate.

A police source said on Sunday that upon receiving a radio alert, the RRS immediately swung into action by mounting the stop and search operation and discovered over 13 boys who were cramped inside a Suzuki mini bus with blood stains.

He stated: “We saw over 13 boys cramped inside with blood stains on a few of them and machetes stained with blood. The police immediately suspected they were the ones who carried out the killing.

“Upon questioning, the police discovered that they went to the scene of the crime in two mini-buses. One developed fault while they were escaping, and they decided to abandon it and use a minibus.”

Another police source said the “boys were suspected members of the notorious Vikings cult group and that the killing of the two university graduates was sponsored by some four Yahoo boys.”

Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Mohammed, confirmed that some arrests were made by the men of the RRS, and the level of involvement of each suspect is under investigation.

“Yes, some major arrests have been made, and the command is investigating,” Mohammed said on Sunday.

Some said the two killed grads were part of the Bobos cult, while others said they were members of Black Axe Aye, a Neo Black Movement organisation.

According to information obtained, Vikings cult members at NDU, other universities, and secondary schools in the state capital have fled in fear of retaliatory assaults.
