A 20-year-old suspect has been taken into custody by the Kano State Police Command on charges of culpable murder and armed robbery.
In a statement released on Tuesday, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed the suspect’s detention.
According to him, the suspect was captured on Monday in Kano’s Danbare Quarters.
“On 5th May 2025, at about 06:40 am, the Kano State Police Command received information from a resident of Danbare Quarters, Kano, that two suspected armed robbers stormed the residence of one Shehu Muhammad, a 30-year-old male and attacked him with a long, sharp cutlass, inflicting multiple injuries on his body.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, sent operations teams and detectives to the area as soon as he received the complaint. A medical professional declared the deceased dead after he was sent to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment, according to Haruna.
According to Haruna, the weapon used in the crime was found, and one of the suspects, a 20-year-old man named Aliyu Umar, was taken into custody on the spot.
He said that the suspect was cooperating with the police inquiry.

He said that the suspect will be prosecuted in court for proper prosecution as soon as the inquiry is over.
He advised citizens to be on the lookout and report any suspicious activity to the closest police station for immediate action, while reassuring them of the command’s dedication to upholding law and order and prosecuting offenders.
“The Command commends the community members for promptly reporting the incident, assisting in the arrest of the suspect and in supporting the police in its efforts to maintain peace and security in the state,” the statement added.
