During a parade in Ikirun, Osun State, an Amotekun Corps agent is said to have shot and killed Olubukola, a member of the Orogun Meji masquerade.
The incident happened on Monday during a procession that was organised to announce the masquerade performance in advance of the Egungun Festival the next day.
The deceased, a truck driver connected to the Eko-Ende Tipper Motor Park, was among those following the masquerade during the parade when mayhem broke out, according to witnesses who talked to The Intercept on condition of anonymity.
According to them, the Amotekun operative, said to have been hired by the Orogun Meji masquerade group to provide security, was reportedly engaged in a scuffle when some individuals allegedly attempted to wrestle his rifle from him.

In the confusion, Olubukola was allegedly shot in the leg.
“The incident happened on the 6th of May, 2025, in Ikirun. Family and friends of Orogunmeji masquerade were on parade around Ikirun in the evening in preparation for the Egungun festivals, which were to commence a few hours later.
“In the course of that parade, chaos erupted, which led to the dragging of a rifle by one of the Amotekun Corps. One of the followers of the Orogunmeji Masquerade, named Olubukola, who also worked as a truck driver at Eko-Ende Tipper Motor Park, was eventually shot in the leg by an Amotekun Corp operative.

Confirming the incident during a chat with The Intercept on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the head of the Orogun Meji masquerade group has been invited for questioning.
“The incident happened on Monday. We invited the head of the Orogun Meji masquerade for questioning, as we were informed that he was the one who engaged the Amotekun operative. Investigation is ongoing,” Ojelabi stated.
