Six Nigerians and two Chinese nationals have been taken into custody by the Lagos Zonal Directorate Ikoyi of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly engaging in illicit mining activities in the Ogere region of Ogun State.
According to Dele Oyewale, the suspects were captured on Friday, May 9, 2025, during a sting operation.
He named the suspects as Ibrahim Yinusa, Saidu Shuaibu, Wasiu Ademola Alao, Matthew Mathias, Oluwaseun Amoo, Zhang Hang Lin, Gao Pei Hai, and Ajibola Nurudeen.

Three vehicles filled with bags of materials thought to be pulverised lithium powder were among the items found on the suspects.

Some yet-to-be-identified solid minerals, a Toyota 4Runner SUV, mobile phones, samples of suspected low-grade lithium, ATM cards, international passports, four LED flashlights, and others were also recovered.
