An attempt at kidnapping in Chanchangi village, Takum Local Government Area, Taraba State, has been foiled by troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).
Captain Oni Olubodunde, the Brigade’s acting spokesperson, told reporters in Jalingo on Saturday that the three victims had been recovered unharmed.
According to Olubodunde, the action took place along the Takum–Chanchangi Road during a regular patrol and picketing exercise.
“As the soldiers approached the Uko community axis, they encountered suspected armed bandits who had abducted three individuals traveling in a vehicle,” said Olubodunde.

He added, “Upon sighting the troops, the kidnappers fled into the nearby forest, abandoning their captives. The soldiers gave chase and engaged the fleeing suspects in a brief firefight, forcing them to retreat further into the bush.”
Among the rescued victims, according to the troops, is Alhaji Ali, the Sariki Pawa of Takum. The victims’ vehicle was recovered at the scene, although the abductors escaped with the car key and two mobile phones.
