A road accident along Mbiabong Itam road, off Itu-Uyo Road in Akwa Ibom State, claimed the lives of approximately six people on Wednesday, May 28.
According to FRSC Sector Commander Edward Odiete, who announced in Uyo, the crash involved a Tricycle (Keke) with registration number DUU407WZ and a DYNA Truck without registration number.
Four men, one woman, and two children were involved in the collision; all were pronounced dead at the scene before the arrival of FRSC personnel, except the DYNA Truck driver, who was reported to have gone missing.

He said their bodies have since been deposited in the morgue.
He added, “Upon inquiry as to the cause of the crash, it was gathered that the causal factor to the crash was speed related and brake failure according to eye witnesses.”

Odiete, however, warned road users, especially motorists, against reckless driving, speeding, wrong-way driving and distracted driving, adding that the incident could have been avoided had the driver and rider observed certain degrees of safety measures and precautions and adhered strictly to traffic rules and regulations.
While commiserating with the families of the deceased, he enjoined all road users to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid wanton loss of lives and property due to road crashes.
