In Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a fight between members of the Deygbam cult and a local vigilante group is thought to have killed at least two individuals.
According to reports, the event happened on Wednesday night at Echue Street in Mile 2 Diobu, which is in the state’s Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
A member of the vigilante group known only as Sango was reportedly ambushed and slain by the cultists terrorising Port Harcourt’s Diobu neighbourhood.

According to reports, Sango was shot dead by the cultists as soon as they caught him on his way home.
It was gathered that the members of vigilante who got wind of the development mobilised to the scene and engaged the cultists in a gun duel.
A source privy to the development, who preferred to be identified only as Maxwell, disclosed that when the crossfire ensued between the two groups, a stray bullet picked a lady.
Maxwell said: “The bad boys that are disturbing Diobu ambushed a vigilante member and killed him while he was returning home. When other members of the vigilante heard it, they came to the scene.
“The Cultists engaged when. There was serious shooting between the two groups. In the course of the shooting, a stray bullet picked a young lady. The Vigilante group chased the cultists away.”
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that it was cult related, adding that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Adepoju Adewole, had mandated the tactical units to mobilise to the troubled area, adding that normalcy has since returned.
Iringe-Koko said police have opened an investigation into the development, promising that the police would arrest and prosecute all the cultists involved.
Recall that that on Sunday night, a taxi driver identified as Barnabas was shot dead by suspected cultists in front of his house in Echue Street, Mile 2 Diobu.
