New Moon Sighted in Nigeria, Sultan Declares End of 2025 Ramadan

A new moon has been sighted, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, is expected to declare the end of Ramadan in 2025 shortly, according to information obtained by The Intercept.

Simwal, a member of Nigeria’s National Moonsighting Committee, tweeted Saturday evening that there had been a valid sighting report.

“I just had a conversation with a committee member at the palace who confirmed there is a positive sighting report, and His Eminence will issue an announcement soon,” the tweet read.

This development comes hours after Saudi Arabia announced the sighting of a new moon and declared Sunday as Eid-el-Fitr.
