After a two-month pause, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) paid out arrears for the first time since the last payment on June 3. The payments started on Wednesday.
This payment is related to the recently granted N77,000 monthly stipend by the Federal Government
On April 5th, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu promised that newly discharged corpsmen would be given the new N77,000 monthly payment that the Federal Government had authorised.

“Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them,” Nafiu stated during the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilization Workshop in Abuja. It will even help our corps members who just passed out. We have their bank account information.
“Nigerians should not worry about that because the government is both responsible and responsive to their needs,” he said, highlighting the government’s dedication.

Following significant dissatisfaction with the delayed implementation following the Federal Government’s approval of the allowance increase as part of its promise to alleviate economic hardship for young, the arrears payment, which covers the period from July 2024 to March 2025, was made.
Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also called “Raye,” a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos, has accused the scheme of refusing her discharge certificate.
Ms. Uguamaye made news earlier this year when she called Lagos a “smelling state” and attacked the Tinubu administration in a TikTok video that went viral, according to The Intercept.”

She said in a video that her Local Government Inspector, or LGI, would not grant her the all-clear until April, despite the fact that she was there on the scheduled date.
In a video that was uploaded to Instagram, the corps member said that she was repeatedly instructed to “go to the back” during the clearance process until her file was ultimately seized. She added that after declining to assist her, the official urged her to go.
Ms. Uguamaye strongly denies the accusation that she was informed she would not be receiving her release certificate because she did not have the April clearance.
She posted on social media, saying, “I truly wish I wasn’t a Lagos State corps member because it’s a waste of my time,” and that she had made the decision to move on from the incident.
