The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned that prospective corps members will not be mobilised for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).
The scheme issued the directive on Monday in a public notice posted on its official X account, urging all prospective corps members to complete the verification process early to avoid delays in mobilisation.
According to NYSC, NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for participation in the national service programme.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.
Reinforcing the directive, NYSC added: “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
Although further details on the clearance process were not provided, the directive signals stricter verification procedures ahead of the mobilisation of the next batch of corps members.
The advisory comes shortly after NYSC announced mobilisation for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, urging tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the orientation exercise.
It also follows a recent safety advisory cautioning prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night. The scheme advised them to break their journeys where necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and security formations.
Expanded Paragraphs:
Analysts say the emphasis on NERD clearance reflects NYSC’s determination to strengthen the integrity of its mobilisation process, ensuring only verified graduates participate in the scheme.
Observers also note that the twin advisories—on clearance and safety—highlight NYSC’s broader efforts to safeguard corps members amid rising security concerns across Nigeria.
With preparations for the next orientation course underway, eligible graduates are expected to complete all registration and verification requirements, including the newly emphasised NERD clearance, before mobilisation for national service.
