The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that it has finished nine of the fourteen tasks on its updated schedule for the general elections in 2027.
Presently, Nigeria’s National Register of Voters has over 103 million voters.
This was revealed by INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan on Wednesday during his meeting with Pete Vowles, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, at the commission’s Abuja headquarters.
Amupitan stated that as the commission continues to prepare for the elections, operational readiness evaluations were being conducted throughout the six geographic zones.

He also announced that INEC was conducting a nationwide Permanent Voter Cards collection exercise across all 774 local government areas, with collection points decentralised to registration areas and wards.
The chairman further disclosed that the commission had procured 57,000 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System devices to strengthen its technological capacity ahead of the polls.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that the collection of the newly printed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be on personal recognition and not by proxy.
Resident Electoral Commissioner REC) in Oyo State, Professor Adeniran Tella, said in a statement.
Tella clarified that on Friday, October 9, 2026, the state is anticipated to start collecting the freshly printed PVCs in advance of the general elections in 2027.
But he stressed that no one would be permitted to pick up the PVCs on someone else’s behalf.
According to him, the collection will take place in all 33 INEC local government area offices in the state.
The REC enjoined members of the public and stakeholders in the electoral system to cooperate with the commission.
Tella also revealed that a lot of uncollected PVCs are still in the custody of the commission.
He concluded by advising the owners to use the window period to collect them
